Trek Map of Sandakphu-Phalut
Elevation of Singalila Range
As seen from the Darjeeling Hill (say standing on the edge of Batasia), one can have a good view of the Darjeeling portion of the Singalila range and some glimpses of this range in Sikkim up to Kanchanjangha. The range lies west of Little Rangit river opposite Darjeeling. A road comes up from Siliguri through Sukna or Matigara, Garidhura, Pashupati and Simana in Nepal border and Sukhia Pokhari (dry pond). At Sukhia Pokhari, another road comes from Ghoom and proceed towards Manaybhanjang (bhanjang means meeting point of two ridges), the starting point of Sandakphu-Phalut trek. The road from Ghoom is the way to come here from Darjeeling town. Between Ghoom and Sukhia Pokhari, a bifurcation from Lepcha Jagat take the visitor to Bijanbari and Pulbazar on the eastern bank of Little Rangit river, opposite Singalila range.
The distance of Manaybhanjang from Sukhia Pokhari is seven kilometers. From Darjeeling, one can travel to Manaybhanjang by bus in an hour. Darjeeling-Rimbik bus also goes through Manaybhanjang. Share taxi is also available in this route. A bus comes here from Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri.
Trekkers may have a night’s rest at Manaybhanjang or Sukhia Pokhari before the trek on Singalila range. Singalila National Park starts between Tumling and Gairibas and extends up to Phalut.
